The Friday Five, Issue 5

Welcome to the Friday 5!

Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!

What I am currently loving:

Fairy Tales Hair Care Products

I had been struggling for about a year with the girls’ hair.  It was very dry and almost brittle.  Lillian’s hair is fine and wavy, Stella’s is thick and straight and nothing I was using seemed to do the trick for either of them. I wanted to stick with something nontoxic and of course tear free, since they still make a mess when I am washing their hair.  Several years ago, I randomly overheard another mom at the gym talking about their lice prevention shampoo so I bought a bottle to have on hand if we needed it.  So, I did some research and found they have an entire line of shampoo and conditioner for kids.  This stuff has been a game changer for the health of the girls’ hair.  Also, I started only washing their hair once a week unless they just really need it.  I rotate between the Curly-Q and the Tangle Tamer depending on what Target has in stock for pick up.  I now don’t even need a detangle spray most days, I can just wet the brush with a little bit of water and brush without a problem.

Nighttime Tea

This has very quickly become my new favorite habit. I am fairly certain I am the only person in the south who doesn’t like iced tea, I don’t even know how to make it.  Anything that even remotely tastes like tea makes me cringe.  But herbal tea, that’s my jam.  I’m not sure how or why this obsession started, but I truly enjoy it.  It has become more about the ritual for me than the tea itself.  I have replaced the desire to pour a glass of wine every night with the ritual of making tea.  It is a special beverage at the end of the night to cozy up with in bed with none of the repercussions of nightly wine.  I rotate between several brands depending on which grocery store I am at or which one is on sale, but these are my two favorites: Traditional Medicinals Nighty Night and Yogi Bedtime Tea.  I stick with organic brands, because I have found I have a mild allergy to synthetic sweeteners and they make my fingers itch like crazy, not ideal before bed.

Revision’s Intellishade Tinted Moisturizer

I had seen Revision products at my dermatologist’s office multiple times, but didn’t really know anything about them.  Then I started following Living with Landyn and she raves about them constantly. She always says, if you only try one of their products, try this one. Intellishade is an anti-aging tinted moisturizer with SPF.  I had been using a tinted moisturizer with SPF as my daily makeup and had been pretty happy with it.  But when I ran out, I decided I would try the Intellishade instead.  Now that I am on the other side of 35, I felt like I could use the addition of anti-aging daily as well.  Within one week, I could see a difference in the quality of my skin!  I had been feeling like my skin just looked dull and really felt like I was struggling.  I am now a total fan girl and LOVE this product.  I am slowly building an arsenal of Revision products and let me tell you, each one is better than the last.

Veggie Burger with Fried Egg

This may be my favorite go to snack in a hurry.  These veggie burgers are great in a pinch and fill me up with a good serving of veggies.  I try to keep these on hand for the days I am out of fresh produce or am just craving something warm.  Throw a fried farm fresh egg on top and this is the perfect lunch when I just don’t feel like eating or throwing something together.  When I’m feeling fancy, I will add sliced avocado and a drizzle of hot sauce, but it’s not a requirement. Now, in full disclosure, this would not be my pick as a replacement for an actual burger patty, but it is good in its own right.  Whole Foods sells them, and this is an item I only purchase when it’s on sale.  I normally buy 2 boxes when they are on sale and about the time I run out, they are on sale again!

These Towels from Target

I learned about these towels from my favorite girl, Kate, and I immediately threw out every other towel in the girls’ bathroom.  They are the perfect size and texture for the kids.  I’ve had them for almost 6 months, and they have held up amazingly.  I even got the matching hand towels and washcloths.  I still can’t get over how cheap they were ($2.75 each!).  If I can ever work up the motivation to clean out the linen closet in our bathroom, I want to replace most of my towels with them.  They are not a big fluffy towel, so if that’s your preference, these may not be for you.  I personally love the texture of these, and they are wonderfully absorbent, which is really what I am looking for in a towel.

I hope you found something helpful or inspiring in this week’s Friday Five! I’ll have 5 new favorites to share with you next week, have an awesome weekend!
