Welcome to the Friday 5!
Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving. This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!
What I am currently loving:
In Plain Sight: Lady Bird Johnson
I don’t even know how I found this podcast, but it is so fascinating. I mostly listen to personal development or just for fun podcasts, but this might be my new favorite. I feel a little cheated that I was taught American History in high school when I couldn’t care less. Now, I think it’s so interesting and I cannot get enough. Lady Bird Johnson was the wife and First Lady to President Lyndon B. Johnson, who became president after the assassination of JFK. She kept an audio diary the entire time LBJ was in office. The host of the podcast starts with the assassination of JFK and hearing the audio recording of Lady Bird reliving the death of JFK gave me goosebumps. It continues on through her struggles of trying to “beautify” the country, being the President’s closest advisor and his struggles to lead the nation thru the War in Vietnam and the Civil Rights Movement. If you are looking for something new to listen to, this is wonderfully done, and you just might learn a little something too.
Batiste
If you read my blog post about going longer between shampooing your hair, you know how much I love this product. Batiste is hands down my favorite dry shampoo and it might just be my most used beauty product. I don’t know why this one works so well, but I’ve tried several different options at different price points, and this is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. I think the real secret to using dry shampoo is starting when your hair is clean. I use it every single day. It helps give my hair just a little more volume and helps to hold the curl or style when I fix it. If my hair is freshly washed, it’s just a little too smooth to really hold any style. My only complaint might be, that if I get a little carried away you can see some of the white residue on my scalp, but my hair is so light, I can usually brush it in. If your hair is darker, they do sell a brunette option to help with this issue.
Target Pick Up
This might be the best thing since sliced bread. If you are still going into Target to just grab one thing, you have to do pick up. And specifically drive up. They will literally bring you a stick of deodorant to your car. No minimum, typically ready under 2 hours and they hold it for like 5 days or something crazy like that. You can just pick it up whenever is convenient for you. I usually have several small orders at a time, and I will pick them all up at the end of the week. It is all done thru the app, is so easy to use and they are normally waiting for me when I pull up. If you are a mom, this is life changing. Start using it, it will change your life. Oh, did I mention it’s free?
Shredding Block Cheese
I picked up this habit when I lived with one of my girlfriends after college. It drove me nuts that she would always buy a big block of cheddar and shred it. We had taco Tuesday quite frequently in those days. And then I tried it. I can’t explain it, but shredding your own cheese is so much better than buying a bag of shredded cheese. The taste and freshness are about a million times better. Now, I never buy pre-shredded cheese, only the block. I’ve even started buying a huge block at Sam’s club and shredding about half of it and freezing in Ziplock freezer bags so it’s ready to go when I need it for cooking, like topping a breakfast casserole, pizza or enchiladas. Then I keep the other half in the fridge to use for fresh stuff like tacos or just for the girls to eat cheese cubes.
Naptime Kitchen: Home Reset
If you’ve been here a while, you know how much I love Kate from Naptime Kitchen. She is such a bright light on Instagram with the biggest smile you’ll see. She has so many good kitchen, home and kid hacks. She has released her Home Reset twice this year and will be bringing it back in January. I bought it from her in January of last year when she released it and I love it. It is an audio course, so you can listen on the go and then you have a checklist for each area of the home she covers (kitchen, laundry room, master bedroom, kids clothes, toys, etc.). This has changed how I think about the function of my house and how I store the girls’ clothes and toys. Admittedly, I haven’t tackled everything I want to in the house, but she is such an amazing cheerleader to help you figure out exactly how to organize and use your home. She even has two new topics for this release: your car and paper. If you need a jumpstart to spring cleaning or the feeling of your BFF helping you, Kate is your girl.
I hope you found something helpful or inspiring in this week’s Friday Five! I’ll have 5 new favorites to share with you next week, have an awesome weekend!
