One of the biggest trends for spring is blazers with jeans. Specifically, blazers with shoulder pads that are slightly oversized. I generally pride myself on not being too trendy, however, I knew I could make this trend work for me. Because I worked in a professional setting for more than a decade, which required a blazer more often than not, I’ve had my fair share of pulling an outfit together that involved a blazer. But a blazer, with jeans? I probably haven’t done this since college. Anybody remember that? With a broach? We rocked some pins on our blazers in college.
So, I pulled out the one blazer I have saved from my working days and threw together four looks. These are looks that I would wear out for date night, drinks with friends, running errands with kids in tow or a lunch with friends. The best part of all of these, you probably have all the right pieces in your closet right now, I know I did.
Finding the a versatile blazer is key. I just don’t love an oversized blazer on my frame, I feel like it swallows me, so I have always leaned more to a slim fit. My exact blazer is probably more than 10 years old from Ann Taylor. My favorite places to find blazers are Ann Taylor, Express and Zara.
Date Night
Y’all know how much I love a monochromatic outift from my post on tonal dressing, but all black is really my favorite. Black denim, black lace camisole and strappy black heels with a blazer is simple, classic and timeless. And because I live in the casual south, I could probably wear this outfit to even the fanciest of occasions.
Drinks with Friends
By switching into dark denim, adding a neutral color tank and keeping the strappy heels is the perfect look for a night out with friends. Adding a pop of color with your bag or shoes is the perfect accent for spring.
Running Errands with the Kids
These high rise black denim pants from Madewell are probably one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe, because they can be dressed up or down and are almost as comfortable as leggings, but only a thousand times more put together. Paired with a simple white tank and my favorite MZ Wallace backpack for all the necessities, this will be my go to weekday look for errands with Ruby.
Lunch With Girlfriends
Dressing up distressed denim is one of my favorite looks right now and adding a blazer is just perfect. So, I paired it with a plain black v-neck, but this could easily be a vintage band tee or any type of graphic tee. This is also a great option once it starts to get really hot, because it is still a pulled together look without the jacket.
