Kids’ Everyday Smoothie and Other Breakfast Ideas

Every morning I make myself and Matt this smoothie for breakfast.  I love that it is a great way to start our day, full serving of veggies, greens, fruit, tons of protein and healthy fats.  Once the girls realized this was our everyday, they started asking for smoothies every morning too.  After going thru several variations, we have finally nailed down their favorite recipe. Here’s what we are currently doing: 1 C of ice 1 C of milk of choice 1/2 C of frozen blueberries 1 C of frozen strawberries 1 large banana 1 tbsp of hemp seeds(or a scoop of protein) 1 tbsp of local honey Add all ingredients…

What I Bought to Prep for Back to School

This year, I am determined to not be scrambling to get everything the week before school.  So, I’ve spent the last few weeks collecting the things I know I will need to start the school year off strong.  I know if I am feeling stressed about school starting the kids will pick up on that and I want us to go in excited and ready for the new year ahead. Here’s what I’ve bought so far: Bookbag This is the first year that any of the girls will need a backpack, up until now their school has provided them with a bag.  But Lillian is starting 1st grade in the…

    The Friday Five, Issue 28

Welcome to the Friday 5! Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!  As the New Year approaches, I’ve been thinking a lot about routines. Routines that I do religiously and those that I have slacked off of in the busyness of the holidays. The beginning of the year is a great time to concentrate on getting back into the habits that make you feel your best. These are just some of the little things I try do routinely that make…

    The Friday Five, Issue 27

Welcome to the Friday 5! Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!  What I am currently loving: Taylor Jenkins Reid Have y’all read any of Reid’s books?  In the past year, I’ve read four of her books.  They are all so well written and just easy reads for me.  I have really gotten into the habit of reading when I get in bed and I want an easy, entertaining read.  I read at the end of the day as an…

    The Friday Five, Issue 26

Welcome to the Friday 5! Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!  This week I am focusing on managing your home, specifically, how I use my calendars to keep on track and organized.  The biggest lie I constantly tell myself is “I don’t have to write that down, I’ll remember.”  With three kids getting more involved and busier by the season, I have a ticker tape going in my head at all times of to-dos. What I am currently loving:…

    The Friday Five, Issue 10

Welcome to the Friday 5! Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!  What I am currently loving: Ground Ginger In My Coffee I love spice, but I especially love a spicy drink.  I won’t drink a regular margarita, but if there is a jalapeno margarita on the menu, you better believe I’m ordering it.  I had a ginger latte at a fancy coffee shop a few years ago and really had no idea what to expect.  It was the smoothest…

How I am Really Feeling About Back to School

I wrote the majority of this blog post in 2020, as we were preparing to send our girls to school. As I reread and edit it today, I am shocked to be feeling the same things again. I ignorantly thought we’d be heading into a “normal” school year this year. With Covid surging again locally, we will be starting another school year with masks, social distancing and quarantining at the forefront of our minds. Last year, I read a quick post on Instagram from Tiffany with We Five Kings about all the emotions she has felt throughout quarantine, or the “coronacoaster” as she called it.  The post listed every single…

    The Friday Five, Issue 12

Welcome to the Friday 5! Every Friday I will highlight 5 things I am currently loving.  This can be anything from habits that are currently serving me, clothes, apps, people I am currently loving, podcasts, food, mom hacks and everything in between!  What I am currently loving: Spicy Honey If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know how much I love spicy beverages.  From a margarita to coffee, if its spicy, especially a sweet spicy, I want it.  Most weekends, we try to hit up our local farmer’s market; the girls love it and I just love supporting all the local vendors and being out…

Our ER Visit With a 3 Day Old

Our daughter, Ruby, was born on July 4, 2019.  She came into the world like a firecracker, 6 days after her due date and she was perfect.  Everything with my pregnancy and delivery was uneventful and healthy.  On the second morning home with Ruby, I noticed she was incredibly warm when she woke up to nurse.  I figured she was just warm from being in her pj’s and swaddle all night.  I undressed her and let her nurse to see if she would cool off a bit. After nursing her she still seemed way too warm.  Ironically, before leaving the hospital after delivery the pediatrician specifically told me, any fever…

    Blue Ridge Trip Recap

When booking summer camps for the girls this year, I went a little crazy and basically booked the girls every week that was available.  I think the excitement of being able to send Ruby to a handful of camps got the best of me and wanted to just keep them busy and on a schedule for as much of the summer as possible.  Which meant the only week we had available for a vacation was the week of the 4th of July, since all the camps are closed for the holiday.  That also happens to be Ruby’s birthday.  Lillian and I love the beach and could go every other week,…
